I'm not going to lie, this is a weird ass movie (quite literally). It's so weird, that I don't imagine many people will really understand or appreciate it. To watch this movie is to commit to it's strangeness as much as Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe commit to their bizarre roles. I laughed so hard at this movie, and yet I was also deeply touched by it. Wow. Never thought a mov...

Micro Review – Hidden Figures
Pretty fascinating "based on a true" story about an oft-overlooked part of the space race. It follows a common formula for biographical, historical feed-good movies. It would have been nice if it had tried to break the mold a bit more. But it's quite charming at times. And it's good family entertainment.

Micro Review – Thoroughbreds
Hmm. How to describe Thoroughbreds? A bizarre dark comedy about upper-class suburban malaise? That’s probably the best way to put it. I enjoyed watching it. But I’m not exactly sure why. Maybe it was the plain-faced wackiness of it? Maybe it was the performance of Olivia Cooke, who deftly juggles anti-social psychosis with dry, sardonic humor. Or the fact that it’s got Paul Spa...

Micro Review – Meru
What an inspiring, terrifying documentary. We follow three rock climbers as they conquer a seemingly impossible mountain in the Himalayas. With equal parts courage and stupidity, they show us that human beings are capable of amazing things. This movie makes me want to go climb a mountain....Though not THAT mountain.

Micro Review – A Serious Man
The Coen Brothers make movies that have their own mythologies. There's always a larger context that their movies fit within. Maybe that's what makes them so enjoyable to watch - just knowing that there's more to each film than what you actually see. There's a history for the worlds that their movies take place in, so that you feel like you're only getting to see the tip of the ...

Micro Review – I, Tonya
I never thought I'd want or need a movie about Tonya Harding. But it's good that they made this. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but if it's even close, the whole story of her life - and the Nancy Kerrigan incident that would ultimately define her - is as interesting as it is tragic. She was just a girl from a rough background who found her true calling and passion. It's sad t...

Micro Review – The Disaster Artist
I stopped this movie half way through because I felt like I needed to watch the film that it was based on, The Room. The Room is one of the worst movies ever made. And I am glad I did that. To truly appreciate The Disaster Artist, it's best to have some context. In the "Making Of" doc, Franco mentions wanting to retain the passion and emotion of Tommy Wiseau and his movie. And ...

Micro Review – Deadpool
It's a good time. A fun take on the superhero genre. And super funny. If you like Ryan Reynolds, and you like super heroes, you'll like this. Hell, you'll probably like this even if you don't like super heroes.

Micro Review – Icarus
A gripping documentary about a massive international doping conspiracy. I was thoroughly engrossed by this film. There were times when it got a little bit clunky and hard to follow. But ultimately, I found my jaw dropping multiple times throughout.

Micro Review – Thor: Ragnarok
So are we all just pretending the Thor series was always a buddy comedy and that Loki is a likeable funny guy that didn't try to destroy the world and all that? Oh, we are? Okay cool.
It seemed like they figured out that the plot drama in the Thor movies was forgettable and dull, so they just put jokes in to spice it up. It's like they're giving the audience permission to no...
