This is a bad movie. It’s got absolutely ridiculous antics (all the Jeremy Renner stuff is just so over the top). The female characters are some of the most shallow and underdeveloped I’ve seen in a long time (they’re completely reliant on the male characters), and a half-assed attempt at “gender equality” at the end is shameful at best. This is a movie that is unabashedly for dudes, about dudes. It doesn’t really fit in with our modern social climate, sentimental ending be damned. But for what it is…I still laughed and enjoyed myself while watching this movie. It’s got funny people in it, and funny scenes, and it’s generally just a good time. Given that this is based on a true story, I kind of wish they’d stayed a little bit more realistic with the whole thing, instead of turning it into a bro comedy with unrealistic/silly action set pieces. The true story itself is pretty unique and fascinating. I feel like that would have been enough for a movie. But then again, maybe not. Like I said…I still laughed throughout the movie.
