I’ll keep this short and sweet. Upon re-watching Dunkirk, I now believe that it is a masterpiece. The first time you watch it, you’re on the edge of your seat the whole time. It’s breathtaking. And stressful. It’s a visceral experience – especially if you’re lucky enough to see it in the theater in widescreen. After I left the movie theater, the first time I saw it in the summer, I was jarred and somewhat shocked by the experience. The film stuck with me for a while. I knew it was a monumental movie. But because of how harrowing and intense it was, I couldn’t truly appreciate it for all that it was worth. Watching it again is still stressful. But the second viewing shows just how truly astounding Dunkirk is. This is a great film. A great piece of history. A great piece of art.
